optimism
you smoke with yesterday,
flirting with catch-22s
in a crinkled cigarette haze,
crumple up poetry
etched with
coffee-stain jaundice
on off-white napkins
and discard
words
like a
cheap
fuck.
and I,
rooted
in a reckless requiem,
share a drink with death,
his jet-black trash bags
thrown careless past
a dusk beard
like effervescent sand!
what a stupid
romantic thought
for the
future,
but,
fuck it,
I grin regardless,
sift my way through
a casual mound of
dim-lit ruin,
unfold your schematics
for a dying wish
and commit it to memory.
good.
more shit to burn.
tomorrow grunts through cold fingers
and
I
laugh.
