I feel restless,
like a playground ghost
telling human stories to a swing set,
remembering a girl with a
goldfish smile, the sort of
perpetual happiness
that comes from living
on the high end of
a seesaw.
the sun was restless
that afternoon, and when
our chalk skylines got
smudged by storm clouds,
the sidewalks echoed
the forecast of rain like
footsteps
in the puddles she left
beneath the thunder,
and that familiar acid reflux
still rises in my throat like
gasoline;
my stomach stalls out
and I feel restless
again,
